With the season coming to an end, things have been busy here at Phunkshun Wear to say the least. Here is an update on some of the things Phunkshun Wear and our Athletes have been up to as of late in no paticular order.

In anticipation of April Fools Day (aka gaper day), we had an arts and crafts night of sorts at the Phunkshun Wear HQ building our group costume.

Yes, Mario Kart was our theme. Everyone got just a little to into their kart design.

After months of costume planning and kart construction, we were able to show off our duct tape talent at Arapahoe Basin – Tent was booming with people, playing bag toss, enjoying a beverage, and we gave away over 100 hot dogs.

While there, we met Shawn Whyte – this guy really cuts the mustard.

What’s SIA?

SIA is a magical time of year, when winter sports companies, shop buyers, athletes, and anyone who can sneak in gather in Denver. The show is full of next years product, parties, and good times. Phunkshun Wear attended SIA for the first time this year and had a GREAT show!

We arrived in Denver to snow falling, couldn’t have asked for a better way to kick of the Snowsports Industries of American tradeshow!

We know you’ve been wondering how the process works here at Phunkshun Wear HQ. It’s not all magic beans and fax machines.. there’s a lot of straight forward hard work involved. Tahoe to Idaho with Robby Franco

I came back to Tahoe for (Christmas) and skiing my home mountain at Sierra at Tahoe for a couple days with the family and friends. I have been filming and enjoying the 70 something inches of powder that we were able to recieve in Tahoe during december. After skiing at my local resort “Sierra at Tahoe” my friends and I adventured off to Sun Valley, Idaho for some skiing. While being there we had a chance to do some fun skiing in their parks hitting their big jumps and rails. We put a few days aside to go to the backcountry. We were fortunate enough to get great weather and some sun to go out and build a kicker/snowmobiling. After our fun quest in the backcountry we were able to do a few more days of filming in Sun Valley, then making our way back towards Tahoe skiing Northstar at Tahoe were I am currently residing for the time being. I plan to ski in Tahoe for a couple more days then head back to Colorado to join some friends, mountains, and the true park scene!

Out for a stroll over Loveland Pass

You would expect to find a guy like Jaron Stadler somewhere in the streets blasting Tupac and scaring small children, sorta like Jay to your alpine gangster Silent Bob. But instead he makes his home the mountains of Summit County, Colorado.

After getting back home from some recent LAFA tour stops though the east coast, Jaron and I did our best to avoid the holiday tourist crowd and decided to head over to Loveland Pass to see what we could shred. The hike up was short, steep, and extremely worth it. Fresh snow was the goal, and we found more than we thought thanks to the recent freezing temperatures. Luck was on our side again when what I thought was just a piece of trash turned out to be a packet of CHOMP energy gummie snacks! Just what we needed to keep going for a couple more laps! The light at this time of year is not ideal for shooting photos, but today there was a great silvery glow to everything that made for some epic views from the top. Can’t wait to do it again!

We know we are lucky to live in a place like Summit County, Colorado. Yesterday we felt even more fortunate because we had an opportunity to do some filming with Jeff Loewe (National Geographic, TGR Films, Warren Miller Productions) and his amazing Red Epic Video Camera. This is the camera that the recent movie “The Hobbit” was filmed with. The Red captures film at up to 400 frames per second, and with a resolution of up to 5K.. all that means to you non-gear heads is this camera takes better shots while filming than most professional DSLRs can take stills.

From the team we invited some of our best skiers and riders to participate, and help us get some cool content in the park. On snowboard we had Justin Morgan, Erika Vikander, Courtney Cox, and Andrew Agar. On skis we had Cody Cirillo, Mark Nowakiwsky, and Ethan Swadburg. The light wasn’t ideal, and the snow seemed to come and go when ever it was least ideal for the shot, but we still got some excellent footage of our team in action.
